i would like to know if all of the pontiac v6 3.4 Montana's have a timing chain or do some use belts. my van has reached 124000 and am worried if it has a belt that needs to be changed or not to worry because they all come with a chain.

It has a chain. There is always a possibility of it breaking, or guides getting worn (which would cause noise), but it's very slight compared to a belt.

Go to www.partsamerica.com and enter in your vehicle. Then look up the engine parts for timing. It will list either a belt or chain.
