Does a 1998 Chevy truck have a timing belt or chain?

Do these need to be replaced based on mileage or time? Although its a 1998 model, this truck only has 24K miles. Should I wait until it has 90K miles before changing the belt/chain? Thanks.

It has a chain.A lot of garage owners will lie to you,be careful.I've seen chevy engines go 200000 mi.and not need a chain. If you have a car with a BELT--Follow the mfr.s maintenance schedule.Remember that the MAJORITY of %26quot;repair shops''make their living selling you overinflated parts that you don't need. Most mechanics don't start out being shady, they get that way because its too easy to lie and rip you off.I've been a mech. since 1970.I worked for dealerships and independent shops.I now do fleet repairs,no shop owners pressuring you to help them lie to the customers.

you dont state if its a s 10 or full size need engine info belt or chain you dont need to change it at 240000 miles by any means id like to know were you got this idea?
i own a repair shop, and its got a timing chain in it,even though you didn't say whether or not it was a 4 cylinder or a v-6 or a v-8 they had timing chain and gears in them, they should be replaced every 80 thousand miles to be safe about it,i haven't seen many of them give a lot of trouble but they will jump a tooth in timing if they get worn bad enough,,at that mileage i wouldn't worry about it,you don't have it broke in good yet,it should be fine for a lot more miles, good luck i hope this help,s.
you have to be specific what kind of you Chevy truck is 4,6 or 8 cylinders, make and model, usually timing belt or chain need to be replace around 60 to 70,000 miles.
