HOw often should the timing belt/chain be changed on a 1998 Lincoln 4.6 motor?

You should have a 16 valve Single Overhead Cam (SOHC) cast iron block engine with timing chains (not belts) driven from the crank shaft up to the 4 cylinder head overhead cam on each side of the engine. If you've done your oil changes regularly, especially using synthetic oil, the timing chain should easily last 200,000 miles with no maintenance required, and probably longer.
