Timing chains normally last the life of the car assuming routine engine oil changes are done. Other drive or accessory belts like the serpentine belt or other belts external to the engine are changed as needed. Some engines use a %26quot;timing belt%26quot; rather than a %26quot;timing chain%26quot; internal to the engine in which case the timing belt is typically changed at 100,000 miles or so on the newest model cars.

it depends on what you have.... If by Drive belt you mean the timing belt its the same as a timing chain but for a 4 cylinder. V8's and V6's have timing chains while 4 cylinder's have a Timing belt... A drive belt is what runs you accessories like the alternator and power steering and water pump.
If you are talking about the Timing belt or chain that should be changed by a professional its not an easy tasks.

A drive belt is as the name implies, used to drive an Accessories such as power steering pump or A/C compressor or alternator.
A timing belt is used to synchronize the engine crank with the engine cam shaft.
The timing chain does the same job as the timing belt, but does not require replacing as does the timing belt.
Now the question is do you have a belt or a chain, if the front of your engine is covered with plastic covers, it has a belt if the front is all metal, you have a chain. Hope this helps
The drive belt is to drive the water pump, alternator,power steering pump AC compressor ,but the timing chain is to drive the camshaft which open and close the valves and to fix the firing order of the engine
If the engine has skipped time, it will not run at all. It will chug as you try to start it. The serpentine belt is due for a replacement if not already done.
