I have a nissan hardbody 2.4l and have a metallic noise for about 3 seconds on startup after sitting for 10 minutes or longer. Had the chain sprocket and tentioner changed and the noise started after about 3000 miles. Any ideas or similar problems? Thanks, Markiev

My experience with this is that its the either the upper or lower chain guards. My friends KA24DE had a similar noise. We removed the valve cover, then the upper timing chain cover. The guard had actually sheered off and was just sitting on top of the chain. I can only guess that the upper cover acted as an obstruction and kept it in place. If it have fallend down it likely would have caused serious damage after jamming the timing chain.
It could be something else but this is easy enough to check that its worth the time.

I am assuming that the noise goes away once the engine get oil pressure? You could take it to your mechanic that installed it, and ask them to check it out.
Or you could just let it go. I believe it's just a little slack or lack of oil until pessure builds.
