I have a v8 305 5.0 ltr. engine what kind of timing chain do these engines have??

It s a gm but i was wondering if it was a single roller chain or a double chain??? and if it is a single chain could i change it to a double chain??? will it be better??

sinle . you can install double with new cover. My expierence with 305 is stay away. The can not take the abuse . You can get to them to run ok but they don`t last long

They come from the factory with a single roller, you can add a double roller, which is better, as long as your changing the timing chain change the cam, 305's were famous for poor cams, heads too.....
its a single roller chain with a plastic tooth cam gear a double roller would not require a new front cover
the 305.327 and 350 share the same timing chain. go for the double row as it will last longer and is more reliable, get a roller type
