does a 2005 peugeot 407 1.6 HDi diesel have a timing belt or chain?

I was with my mechanic this morning and doesn't know which it has.

If it has a timing belt, I know it will need changed now but do the chains ever need replaced??

Thanks for your help in advance

the guy who says modern cars use timing chains is wrong ! Timing belts took over from chains many years ago, You need to have your belt changed about 80000 miles,, do not wait till 100000!

your best bet would be to dig into the car, thats always the best way to find anything out on a vehicle, but its a fairly new car , high chances are your running a chain , timing belts are hardly found on new cars... but you definitely wanna get in there to find out, chains at some point in time in the over 100k mile mark its when you would wanna start paying attention, chains tend to stretch or jump timing at this point is when you would wanna replace it.
being a diesel engine, it probably has neither it is more than likely gear to gear. The reason is vthat diesle engines has a lot more initial load torque and would probably snap a chain and definitely chew up a belt. I would find another mechanic, if he doesnt know.
