Is it OK to replace JUST the timing chain on a 454 BBC?
10 bucks vs. 20 bucks. Plus the gaskets and all the work. Don't just change the 10 buck chain. Get you a cheap timing set and do it right. If not, likes been said, you'll have a wore out brand new chain that might make a few thousand miles, dirty hands, and you get to do it all over again.

you can, but dont expect it to last or remain tight,its gonna get sloppy quick.

Not a good idea, a new chain on old gears can cause excessive pressure and break a tooth. They need to wear and break in together.
Jesus! I knew they had a reputation for being big, but I never knew they needed a timing chain to run them, bet that'll put a lot of women off lol
