Does my 2006 Cadillac CTS use a timing belt or a timing chain and how often does it need to be changed?

Pretty sure it uses a belt, if so around 60k. If its a chain it could last the entire lifetime of the vehicle.

GM's High Feature V6 - the CTS has one version - runs off a chain.

It is about a 6 hour job total and they might want to change the water pump at the same time. If something else is wrong (distributor, valves etc.) this will only be found out later. Any work like this has to have an engine oil change. That is the least of your worries.

how many miles is on your olds if it has high milage it is a possability and why did they think it was the timing chain,I'd like to know how they came to that conculision
I agree with the first person, that being said it is about 4 book hours also, they will have to drain the radiator so you may be charged with new anti freeze. I don't know which engine size you have and it makes a difference. If it is front wheel drive it would be about 6 hours. To give you an example - FWD 3.0 5.3 hrs engine code E - 3.8 engine code C, B, 3 (2.5 hours) 3.8 engine code 1 (3.8 hours) etc. V8 4.9L, 4.5L 3.9 hours. good luck
that doesnt sound like a timing chain to me, sounds more like maybe the crank sensor went, or a fuel problem. i have a 88 olds with a 3.8, i figure yours has a 3.8 too. theres a coil pack and module on them,. i know i took mine for a ride once and came back home and when i went to start it, it wouldnt do nothing, it turned out to be the module, and it didnt show up on the check engine light either, that might be your problem too, coil pack or module.

  • VW Golf Timing Chain or Belt????

I have just bought a vw golf mk v6 4motion registered sept 2000. Does it have a timing belt or a timing chain? If the latter, does it need changing at all? The car has done 79000 miles. What are people's views of this car? Any tips?
VW Golf Timing Chain or Belt????
The VW V(R)6 has a timing chain which should last the lifetime of the engine.

You do have a chain in your vr6. Just keep in mind that even though the chain may last a lifetime, other components may not. The chain has plastic guides and 2 tensioners that will wear out over time. I actually went to change my oil pan gasket a couple years ago and found a bunch of plastic chips in the bottom of the pan. Those plastic chips were pieces of the timing chain guides. You may not need to do any of this, but a tip I can give you is look at your oil when it is changed and strain it if you can to make sure there is nothing in there that shouldn't be.

Timing belt change for 2000 4 cylinder Toyota 4Runner?

My recently purchased 2000 4 cylinder (2.7 liter) 4Runner apparently uses a timing chain rather than a timing belt. The vehicle has 87K miles. Does the chain need to be changed? If so, at what frequency? I have gotten conflicting messages in researching this subject.

    Thanks in advance.
Timing belt change for 2000 4 cylinder Toyota 4Runner?
Don't mess with it. The chain has a tensioner that keeps the slack out. I changed mine out at 200,000 when I had to pull the head and figured it needed it. Maybe it did, maybe not.

no. Unless it has excessive stretch

Has my 2000 astra dti/di got a chain belt or timing belt?

kind of a follow on from my previous question, i was told that the astra dti has a chain belt that never needs changing and that the DI has a timing belt. is this true?

Does a 52 plate Ford Mondeo Ghia X 2ltr petrol have a timing Chain or Timing Belt?

If it's a belt, does anyone roughly know how much to have one replaced at a small local garage would cost, and the recommended mileage to have it changed? Many thanks

its the m4 mazda engine in the petrol mondeo, its chain drive , and give no problems.

Belt. Probably about 拢120 or so. Normally changed around the 80k / 5 year mark - some cars differ. There will be extra cost if there are belt pre-tensioners to be changed as well.
Belt and probably around 拢200 for the full kit and not just the belt at a local independent
a belt probably but the only way to know for sure is take it apart and find out
